Retirement and nursing homes

Supporting equipment solutions

In addition to a homely atmosphere, the selection of a retirement home also takes into account high-quality furnishings. It is particularly important to maintain the normal quality of life and living and to maintain the self-determination of the residents as much as possible. Accessibility plays a central role here. Both the entrances, as well as corridors, doors and the equipment in the rooms should be designed to allow independence and intuitive use. This relieves both the resident and the carer.

Promoting independence

For a better quality of life

The day begins and ends in the bathroom. This room plays a particularly important role - both for the residents and the caregivers. Self-determination becomes more important here than in that other place. Especially around the washstand there is often a lack of shelf space. Required utensils, such as the toothbrush or the washcloth, often have to be handed to the user by the carer. HEWI's modular washbasin system can be individually configured - as required by the user's needs. The unique concept allows the integration of an adaptive handle, which also serves as a towel holder, and a modular storage system directly on the washstand.

The washbasins offer safety and ensure that all bathroom utensils such as soap dispensers, cups and co. are within easy reach. They can be quickly and easily expanded with additional functions and also be rebuilt. System 900 focuses on both the patient and the carer. The products are designed to provide support and stability, thus increasing independence and relieving the burden on nursing staff. System 900 includes solutions for all areas of the sanitary room - whether at the washstand, WC or shower.

Perception in old age

Dementia-sensitive design

Dementia is a focus topic in the care sector. In addition to symptoms such as forgetfulness or speech disorders, the ability to find one's bearings also changes. In order for people with this disease to maintain their independence, it is particularly important to provide them with guidance in the form of clear structures and an environment that is easily perceived by them.

As we age, our eyesight also declines increasingly. Protein deposits on the lens (opacity) restrict the perception of colours; especially colour contrasts in the range of blue and green shades are no longer perceivable in a differentiated way when the lens becomes opaque. Changes to the pupil limit the regulation of depth of field and more light is needed for perception. Restrictions in the visual field make it difficult to capture the impression of the room.

Dementia washbasin and tap

A high-contrast design of the sanitary room in the care area facilitates perception and makes the use of functional elements in the bathroom comprehensible to the residents. The dementia washbasin as well as the sanitary accessories and barrier-free products from System 800 K follow these design guidelines.

Orientation guide

High-contrast design of corridors and doors

As a well thought-out guidance system in the building, colour supports orientation. Colour structures rooms. In this way, individual functional areas can be clearly separated from one another (for example, the visitor and resident areas). A harmonious colour concept serves as an orientation aid, for example to increase the recognisability of the floor or station. Long corridors are structured by colourful accents (e.g. by colour-coordinated handrails, door frames and handles). Rooms to which patients and residents should not have access are optically relegated to the background by colour-neutral doors and door handles.
